We provide three levels of care (high, moderate, and low intensity) for Waypointe residents who exhibit symptoms of mental health issues.
At this level of care, Waypointe participants are in treatment 5.5 hours a day, five days per week, in addition to receiving the structured support and independent living skill teaching that occurs in the residence. At this level, participants take part in two process groups, two psycho-educational groups, and one Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills group each day. Treatment also includes at least one individual session with a psychiatrist each week, and multiple individual contacts with their therapist.
Moderate intensity corresponds to the Discovery phase, with participants stepping down the frequency and intensity of treatment to 3 hours a day, five days per week. Over the next two to three months, participants continue to gradually reduce the frequency of treatment services, dropping incrementally as participants prove ready from five days to one day per week. The step down process occurs simultaneously with additional transitional programming, customized according to each participant’s readiness and interests.
Participants may begin to take academic courses, attend a local community college, volunteer, or work at a part-time job. They will also participate in more supportive services to address the challenges associated with increased engagement in life activities.
Low intensity corresponds to the Transition and Achievement phases. Participants transition from psychiatric treatment services at Waypointe to more traditional weekly outpatient therapy with a community-based mental health professional. The ability to learn, practice, and establish an ongoing treatment relationship with a community-based provider is critical to a participant living independently and sustaining the progress he has made. As part of each participant’s ITTP, he will learn how to work through the challenges of such a process and how to find, discern, and engage with a qualified mental health professional.
There are many experienced, well-qualified therapists in the area surrounding Waypointe who will work collaboratively with the Waypointe team.
