Counseling Services

RVCC has a counseling center where students can receive personal counseling; assistance with academic planning or selecting a major; and guidance in exploring career options. Waypointe has a working relationship with RVCC staff, allowing for collaborative efforts for any Waypointe participant who chooses to seek help through the college’s counseling services.

Recreational Opportunities

RVCC has recently built a 2,330 square foot fitness center and a six-lane, 26-yard heated swimming pool in addition to the school’s already existing baseball, soccer, and softball fields; four basketball courts; outdoor track; and 10,000 foot gymnasium. Open gym and lap swim times are regularly scheduled.

Vocational Training

Employment can serve as an important tool to help develop independence and financial self-sufficiency. At Waypointe, participants work on developing the skills necessary to be successful in the workplace, learning how to search for and obtain employment, and becoming successful, long-term employees.

Through a partnership with Bridges to Employment, Waypointe participants can take advantage of community-based job tours or shadowing experiences, allowing them to examine the professional world in a safe and supportive environment. Bridges to Employment will also work with each individual to examine his career-related needs and interests and tailor their training on an individual basis.

Weekly employment readiness workshops are also available to Waypointe participants. These workshops cover a broad range of topics designed to equip and prepare young men for successful engagement at work, including:

  • Working-world behavior and etiquette
  • Money management, personal hygiene, and time management
  • Conflict resolution, critical thinking, and decision making
  • Career exploration and goal-setting
  • Job search skills, interview preparation, and resume and cover letter development
